WikiPock: The offline copy of Wikipedia on your mobile

Written on 09:06 by Mani kumar

WikiPock is a mobile software that puts all the Wiki Encyclopedia on your mobile phone via a storage card (of size 4GB). The best part is that you don’t need an internet connection to access it.

However, it doesn’t come for free. The price starts at $9.99 if you have your own storage card. If you want WikiPock to send you the program on a 4GB storage card, it will cost $20.

Features:

  1. No internet or data connection required
  2. A simple interface and easy to use
  3. Well indexed articles (around 2.8 million in English) so, as you type your query, you get instant search results on your mobile screen
  4. Clean mobile-formatted pages
  5. The display time for the full editorial content is very quick, so there is no wastage of time
  6. Has an easy forward and backward navigation to read more articles
  7. Battery-life saver
  8. Preloaded microSDHC™ memory card available on the website
  9. Available for Windows Mobile and BlackBerry mobile phones
  10. Comes in ten languages:
    • English
    • German
    • French
    • Polish
    • Dutch
    • Italian
    • Portuguese
    • Spanish
    • Russian
    • Swedish

How to get started?

  • Install WikiPock application on your mobile so that you could access the wiki encyclopedia offline.
  • After the installation, the full content of the articles is stored in your mobile phone.
  • You could access at your convenience all the articles offline.
  • In case you change your mobile handset after purchasing WikiPock, you could simply download WikiPock application to your new mobile from the website again.

Storage space required by WikiPock

  • The English version of the WikiPock needs a minimum of 4GB storage space.
  • The other languages require less storage space.

To buy WikiPock click here.

However, I am not sure how many people would be interested in paying for a copy of Wikipedia for mobiles, when you can get the same on the Web for free. For those who don’t mind the money factor, I think this service can be a useful one.

[ALERT] Vodafone Mobile Balance Transfer Trick

Written on 07:37 by Mani kumar

If you have a pre-paid account there is a very good chance that you will be familiar with this situation where you need just Rs.20 more of balance to make or continue that one important call. icon smile [ALERT] Vodafone Mobile Balance Transfer Trick

Vodafone has a feature which allows people to transfer Balance from one phone to another.

I came across this tip, where I could easily transfer balance between two Vodafone prepaid accounts.

Using Phone Number:

Just dial the following number. is the the number to which you want to send balance to. Also *20 is the amount of balance transfered.

*131*20*#

If you want to request someone to transfer to you some balance, you can initiate that by dialling the following number.

*132*20*#

Here the phone number inserted will be that of the person who you are requesting the transfer from. This will send the person a message about the balance transfer.

I think more than a trick this is a new feature for Vodafone mobile users. Also be aware of balance transfer charges which are Re 1.00 per transfer.

Note: This works only when both the numbers are Vodafone pre-paid account holders.

New CEO at GOOGLE by April 2011

Google logo New CEO at Google by April 2011! Today in a post the current CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt announced that he will step down from his position in April. He will be replaced by Google co-founder Larry Page.

Schmidt has been CEO for over a decade at Google and he has been the managerial face of Google behind the innovative genius of Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Schmidt was interviewed by Page and Brin who founded Google as CEO in 2001. Schmidt is 20 years older than both Brin and Page. He had held many technical positions before he became CEO of Google.

What will happen to Eric Schmidt?

Nothing, he will stay on in Google as its Executive Chairman. This will mean he will be concentrating on company deals and acquisitions. I guess we can expect a lot more acquisitions over the next year or so.

Why make a change?

Google recently has posted growth of revenues by 26%. This is good news for Google fans but we all have seen that Google has come out with some muddled projects in the past couple of years. With trying to create a social layer or with flops like Google Wave and Nexus, many might be wondering if Google is now a follower instead of a leader when it comes to innovation.

I guess this led Google to make changes over the next few months so they can get back to making geek look cool all over again. icon smile New CEO at Google by April 2011!

Buying a Computer: Laptop vs. Desktop

Written on 07:11 by Mani kumar

know it’s necessarily not about being confused, but it is about the right choice. Even in general life, we need opinion and suggestions for certain tasks, similarly what people even ask before buying a new Computer, a Laptop or a Desktop?

A Laptop is the right choice if

  • you possess high levels of mobility and keep moving to different parts of your house, city or the country.
  • you don’t want your PC to be shared among your pals.
  • you live in a house small enough to hold you and the Desktop at the same time.
  • you have that hatred for wires, this and that!
  • you are happy with the ‘extra’ price you paid for the same features.

A Desktop is instead better if

  • you want to see a special area with your computer placed and all stuff around it with no movement.
  • you are cool enough to share your PC with friends, relatives and whosoever.
  • you love to constantly ‘upgrade’ your PC with new and techy parts.
  • you are not cool enough with the idea of paying ‘extra’ bucks just for mobility sake.
  • you think your UPS battery is enough in case of power-cuts.

I guess the above points clearly (some tricky points too icon razz Buying a Computer: Laptop vs. Desktop ) explains how I think would make a difference in choice. What do you think what will matter in making the right choice? Comment, suggest and drop in some points too, I feel so alone writing all the time! icon wink Buying a Computer: Laptop vs. Desktop

Written on 10:50 by Mani kumar

Google’s android operating system recently had version 2.3 gingerbread exclusive with new features,Now Google has shown a demo on its next version android 3.0 codenamed Honeycomb is exclusive for tablet PCs.

Here is the video demo of Android 3.0 HoneyComb

Android 3.0[Honeycomb] is dedicated for tablet PCs hence the design change primarily focuses in tablet optimization with updated UI.

Honeycomb is the next version of the Android platform, designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets. We’ve spent a lot of time refining the user experience in Honeycomb, and we’ve developed a brand new, truly virtual and holographic user interface. Many of Android’s existing features will really shine on Honeycomb: refined multi-tasking, elegant notifications, access to over 100,000 apps on Android Market, home screen customization with a new 3D experience and redesigned widgets that are richer and more interactive. We’ve also made some powerful upgrades to the web browser, including tabbed browsing, form auto-fill, syncing with your Google Chrome bookmarks, and incognito mode for private browsing.

Facebook Launches Suicide Alert system

Written on 10:46 by Mani kumar

*Facebook is set to launch a new system that would allow users to report friends who they think may be contemplating suicide. The feature is being run in collaboration with Samaritans, which said several people had used it during a test phase. Anyone worried about a friend can fill out a form, detailing their concerns, which is passed to the site’s moderators. It follows reports of several cases where Facebook users announced their intention to commit suicide online.

*The reporting page asks for the address (URL) of the Facebook page where the messages are posted, the full name of the user and details of any networks they are members of.

*Suicide-related alerts will be escalated to the highest level, for attention by Facebook’s user operations team.

*”When a report is made, they then assess whether they need to call the police immediately or forward it on to us,” the BBC quoted Samaritans’ Nicola Peckett, as saying.

*For the last three months, the system had been operating in a trial mode without publicity, during which it received several genuine reports and no hoaxes, said Samaritans.

3 Amazing Firefox Hacks

Written on 10:38 by Mani kumar

What good is a browser unless you can tweak it, hack it and bend it to your will? No good at all. The more you can hack it, the better it is. And that means that Firefox must be a great browser as when ever you feel that you know everything about it you come across a bunch of hidden (and some not-so-secret) tips and tricks available that will crank Firefox up and pimp your browser. Make it faster, cooler, more efficient. So today I have come up with 3 amazing firefox tricks you might not be aware of.

1. Save Session For All Tabs Opened In Multiple Firefox Windows

If you are an ardent user of Firefox then you may be aware that when more than one firefox windows are opened up, in that case when you close a firefox window, it does ask me the option to save the session and exit, rather it ask to close all the tabs in that firefox window, but it wont save the tabs in other windows. So this way you could not save the session for multiple tabs opened in multiple firefox windows.

In such a case, there is only one option left to save the session for all the tabs opened in separate firefox windows by terminating firefox through task manager, here is how you do it.
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to quickly launch task manager, click the process tab and locate firefox.exe and right click selecting the exe and click End Process Tree.

Next time when you will open firefox it will open all the tabs in all the windows that were previously open.

2. Open & Log In to Multiple Accounts Gmail, Facebook, or Twitter Accounts In FireFox

Firefox extension CookiePie manages Firefox’s cookies—small bits of text stored on your computer that tell a site you’re logged in, for example—in such a way that you can log into the same site multiple times.
How to use it?
Just follow the steps given below:
  • Install CookiePie Firefox Extension.
  • Create a new tab or use an existing one.
  • Open the context menu of the tab (i.e: Press the right mouse button over the tab) and select “Toggle On/Off CookiePie”.
  • A cookiepie icon will appear over the tab.
  • Go to a site (e.g.: http://www.gmail.com) and login into your account.
  • Create another tab.
  • Enable CookiePie on that tab too.
  • Log in with another account on the same site.

3. Bypass Download Waiting Time On Rapidshare, Megaupload, zShare, Mediafire etc

SkipScreen is a really useful firefox addon for lot of users who download various types of files from the popular file and media sharing sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, zShare, Mediafire, and more.
Most of these file sharing web sites have a annoying waiting time limit before a free user can start downloading the requested file. So, SkipScreen can be really useful in saving your time wasted seeing the download waiting time as it removes the screen of download waiting time from these media sharing sites.
SkipScreen monitors the pages where you see the download time and will get the content you want before the download waiting time completes.

10 Youtube URL Tricks You Should Know About

Picture

Youtube – You know that site with videos and all. Yeah! It turns out that its quite popular and you happen to visit and use it quite often. Instead of just searching and playing here are some top Youtube URL tricks that you should know about:.

1. View high quality videos
Youtube gives you the option to switch to high quality videos for some of the videos, however you can check if a video is available in high quality format by appending ‘&fmt=18′(stereo, 480 x 270 resolution) or ‘&fmt=22′(stereo, 1280 x 720 resolution) for even higher quality.

2. Embed Higher Quality Videos
While the above trick works for playback, if however you want to embed hig quality videos you need to append “&ap=%2526fmt%3D18″ and “&ap=%2526fmt%3D22″ to the embed url.

3. Cut the chase and link to the interesting part
Linking to a video where the real action starts at 3 minutes 22 seconds, wondered if you could make it start at 03:22? You are in luck. All you have to do is add #t=03m22s (#t=XXmYYs for XX mins and YY seconds) to the end of the URL.

4. Hide the search box
Picture
The search box appears when you hover over an embedded video. To hide the search box add ‘&showsearch=0′ to the embed url.
5. Embed only a part of video
Just append ‘&start=30′ to skip first 30s of the video. In general you can modify the value after start= to the number of seconds you want to skip the video for.

6. Autoplay an embedded video
Normally when you embed a Youtube video and load the page, the player is loaded and it sits there waiting for you to hit the play button. You can make the video play automatically by adding ‘&autoplay=1′ to the url part of the embed code.

7. Loop an embedded video
Append ‘&loop=1′ to make the video start again without user intervention after it reaches the end.

8. Disable Related Videos

Publishing your content in the form of Youtube video? Don’t want people to see other people’s content that may be related but may as well be in competition to you? Just add ‘&rel=0′ to the end of the url part of the embed code and you just turned off the related video suggestions!

9. Bypass Youtube Regional Filtering

Some videos are only available in certain parts of the world. Your IP Address is used to determine your location and then allow or deny access to the video. Change the url from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= to http://www.youtube.com/v/

10. Download Video
Although not inherently a youtube trick but useful all the same for downloading videos. Just change youtube to kickyoutube in the url of the video and it will take you to kickyoutube.com with all the options for downloading the video you were watching.

Manually Hide any file in JPEG

Written on 06:50 by Mani kumar

Hello Friends, today i will explain you how to hide any file behind the JPEG image manually that is without any software. Its a very easy trick and also very useful if you want to send information secretly to your friend. Also its different from stenography as it does hides text behind images or text behind mp3 files. Its universal, you can hide any file, virus or Trojan or anything behind image using this trick.

Things that you will need for this trick:
1. Winrar installed on your system.
2. Little knowledge of command prompt.

Steps to Hide any File behind JPEG image Manually
1. Create an folder into C drive (recommendation is that use this C:\Hidden).

2. Now gather all files that you want to hide in this folder.

3. Now add these all files to compressed .rar file using winrar
(example myhiddenfiles.rar ).
Note: This rar file should be in the same directory (i.e. C:\Hidden)

4. Now Select the JPEG file that you want to use to hide the above content
(say myimage.jpg). Put this image file also in the same folder that is in C:\Hidden

5. Now, open Command Prompt (Go to Run and type ‘cmd‘). Make your working directory C:\hidden.
(When you open CMD you will get like C:\Documents and settings\username (something like this)
Now type cd.. and press enter and then again type cd.. and press enter. Now you have something like this in cmd C:\ . Now in front of that type cd "Hidden" and press enter. )

6. Now type: “COPY /b myimage.jpg + myhiddenfiles.rar outputimage.jpg” (without quotes) - Now, myimage.jpg is the picture you want to show, myhiddenfiles.rar is the file to be hidden, and outputimage.jpg is the file which contains both....

7. Now, after you have done this, you will see a file output.jpg in C:\hidden. Open it (double-click) and it will show the picture you wanted to show. Now try opening the same file with WinRAR, it will show the hidden archive...
